Wheeled robots

The most common robot there is — anything that drives on wheels, from a robot vacuum or mower to a restaurant tray carrier, a warehouse shelf-lifter or a lab research base.

  • wheeled robot
  • robot vacuum
  • robot mower
  • delivery robot
  • telepresence robot

What it is

A wheeled robot moves on powered wheels. Wheels are efficient, quiet and stable, which is why most robots use them; the price is that a step or a kerb is a wall. The wheel layout decides how it moves: two driven wheels spin on the spot, four take rough ground, and mecanum wheels slide sideways.

This is the biggest category on the site because the taxonomy classifies by body, not by job. Robot vacuum, mower, delivery and telepresence robots are all wheeled robots; the job is carried by the application attribute. The rule is wheels for locomotion, no legs, no arm sold with it.

What they are used for

  • Home — vacuum-and-mop robots like the Dreame X50 Ultra or Roomba Plus 505, and wire-free mowers such as the Segway Navimow X3.
  • Warehouses — AMRs that tow carts (MiR250), lift shelves (Geek+ P800R) or pull totes from racking (HaiPick A42).
  • Hospitality and delivery — restaurant tray robots (BellaBot, DINERBOT T10) and sidewalk couriers (Starship).
  • Research and teaching — ROS 2 bases from the TurtleBot 4 to the Husky A300, and classroom robots like mBot2.
  • Companions — rolling pets with a screen face (Loona, EMO).

What to compare

Attribute Why it matters In this catalogue
navigation Lidar, camera SLAM, RTK satellite or boundary wire — this decides where it can work slam (10), line-following (1)
drive_config Differential (including skid-steer), omnidirectional (mecanum), Ackermann or tracked decides how it turns and what ground it handles differential (3)
payload A research base carries sensors and compute; a warehouse robot carries hundreds of kilos 4.8 kg (AgileX Robotics LIMO) – 1000 kg (Geek+ P800R)
battery_runtime One cleaning or mowing run vs a full shift with swappable batteries 60 min (AgileX Robotics LIMO) – 720 min (Starship delivery robot)
max_speed Walking pace near people; faster only in fenced-off aisles 0.2 m/s (Makeblock mBot2) – 2.3 m/s (Geek+ P800R)
ip_rating Indoor only vs rain, dust and grass clippings 4 entries
sdk ROS 2 and Python access is what separates a research base from an appliance proprietary (10), ros2 (4), python (2), cpp (2), ros1 (2)
autonomy Mapped and self-routing vs following a line or a wire autonomous (17), semi-autonomous (3)

Edge cases

  • Vacuum with an arm (Roborock Saros Z70): a mobile manipulator. Its arm-less sibling, the Saros 10R, stays here.
  • Base plus a separately sold arm: two entries linked by compatible_with; the base stays here.
  • Reconfigurable chassis (AgileX LIMO swaps wheels for tracks): classified by its default configuration (wheels).
  • Desk pets on wheels: EMO rolls, so it is here, not under Stationary.
